Wear clothes that make you feel like you

During your engagement shoot the most important part is that you get to feel like yourself. You don’t want to look uncomfortable in your photos, so you need to be happy while taking them. Ultimately your wedding will be all about you and so everything you do up to that point will show your true colors. Some people like to dress up in their most expensive evening gown, while others are okay with some business casual, yet stylish comfy clothes. It’s all really up to who you are and whether or not the two of you can agree on what to wear 🙂
People always try to tell you what colors to wear, but in the end it has to be YOU! What did your parents wear to their engagement shoot?
Plan to wear clothes that compliment each other

Make sure you both coordinate what the other person is wearing and that your clothes somewhat match color-wise. You don’t need to look like identical twins, but you don’t want to be wearing all pastels and have your partner wearing maroon and royal blue either. Take the time to check the weather. If it’s going to be hot maybe plan for a nice sundress and some shorts, and a nice button up short sleeve shirt. It also depends on where you are going. Regardless, have your outfits go together!
I recently read online that people should not wear neon colors. I’m not sure I agree with this. What do you think?
Consider your color scheme

Consider a color scheme that will be consistent throughout your whole wedding. These engagement photos might possibly be used to make your save the date that you send out or post online, or even your wedding invitations. Think about what colors you will most likely be wearing at your wedding and use for the venue. If you aren’t sure what colors you’ll be wearing on your big day, consider your surroundings. Wear the colors that go best with the location your’e having your engagement shoot. If there’s water and trees then maybe consider wearing some pastel colors. If you’re shooting in a desert with cactus and mountains in the background, consider some light blue colors and whites. Maybe even some jeans; shorts, skirts, dresses. A super cute sun hat goes a long way too! I saw one shoot where the guy was wearing a sweet light brown suede cowboy hat and a super sweet black vest with his white button up shirt. His fiancee was wearing a really pretty white long dress. Be creative. If you can’t decide on colors then contrast with black and white clothes against your backdrop.
Bring an outfit to change into

Maybe consider bringing at least one other outfit to change into. You probably won’t need to do more than one outfit change, as an engagement shoot usually does not go longer than an hour or two. If you’re photographer knows what they are doing they will be taking photos of you during the “Golden Hour”. You’re going to want to saver that precious golden hour and not spend too much time on changing your clothes. Also, depending on where your shoot is, you may have to get creative on where you change your clothes. At least two outfits won’t kill you for time and will spice up your photos a bit. Hopefully there is a bathroom to change in, but if all else fails you can totally change in your car. More than one outfit will allow for other poses and a little more fun and creativity. You can’t do the pose in this picture above with a short skirt or a dress!
